Abstract:
A view on the role that computer algebra systems can play as
a vital component in problem solving environments is presented.
Special attention is given to their ability
to assist in moving the production of numerical code
to a higher level of
abstraction. An example is used as an illustration. It underlines the need
for interdisciplinary research
in computational science. It also shows the challenging role
of automated program generation in a computer algebra environment.
