Abstract
We study the possible correction of image aberrations that are obtained
by warping the screen. In third-order optics it is known that the
curvature of field aberration is corrected on a paraboloidal
surface tangent to the paraxial focal plane at the optical center.
Here we pursue the problem for axis-symmetric systems up to ninth aberration order. We find systematically the aberrations of each order that can be corrected, and distinguish them from those that can not or need not be changed.
The analysis uses Lie theoretical methods for geometric optics.
