Role of the Participants of the SAC Network

A distinction has to be made between the role of the coordinating participant and the others. For alle participants there exist the tasks that come with

which are to be distributed among the research groups in the conglomerates in such a way that the allocation is near to the expertise. The implicit rule is that the members of the committee are supposed to represent their regions. The tasks are not concerned with the contents of mathematical research, but with organising collaboration and with coordinating mathematics. A list with themes of SAC, covered by the participants, follows:

Except for their specific expertise, the role of all participants is fairly symmetric with respect to this goal.

The other two activities, a distributed electronic network and an electronic newsletter, are of a different nature.

The distributed electronic network is to be set up by CAN, Amsterdam. This centre also takes care of the maintenance of the framework for the knowledge base, the facilities to share hardware and software, and the organisation of the bulletin board. All other participants are responsible for a certain part of the electronic database. Participants that provide a part of this distributed knowledge base keep this information and software up to date.

The newsletter will have a small editorial board consisting of scientists from the network. It will appear both in printed and in electronic form. The function of chief editor will circulate. The material for the newsletter is collected by CAN, who also takes care of the production.
