The Acela project is a medium-sized, medium-term research project whose most visible aim is the production of a state-of-the-art interactive book on Lie algebras.

This talk will discuss some of the issues behind the project, such as the potential and significance of interactive books for mathematical subjects, and outline the aims and plans of our project in relation to them. In particular, we will discuss some aspects of human-computer interaction that are relevant in a context of mathematical content, including the interoperability of various software tools, and issues involved with authoring interactive books.
