International Mathematical Studies at Kaiserslautern

We wish to draw your attention to a very new and attractive series of courses at the University of Kaiserslautern (Germany).

Beginning at the end of October, 1997, we offer students from all over the world, holding a Bachelor (or equivalent first degree) the possibility to achieve a Master's degree. This Master degree is equivalent to the ``Diplom'' which has a long tradition in mathematics at German Universities.

All lectures within this curriculum will be held in the English language. This makes Kaiserslautern the unique place in Germany, where a complete series of lectures in English is offered, enabling the student to reach the Master's degree.

This curriculum is one of thirteen, which has been selected among some 240 applications and is supported by the German government. It is the only one in mathematics.

For the first year of this curriculum, we admit about twenty foreign students and, in addition, the same number of students from Germany. The courses are organized in such a way that the students can graduate with the Master's degree after two and a half years. All foreign student will receive a waiver-of-tuition stipend. In addition a small number of full assistantships will be available.

The participants of this curriculum can choose to specialize in one of the following five fields:

Here is the curriculum in the field Algebraic Geometry and Computer Algebra for the first two years.

(Many courses provide computational aspects of the theory.)
