The aim of this short communication is to inform the academic community about activities of nonlinear analysts in Lithuania.
Almost a year ago the most active mathematicians, physicists, biologists, programming and computer specialists etc., met together to establish a scientific seminar to analyze the theory and applications of nonlinear processes, id est of ones described by non-linear differential equations, and solved by symbolic and/or numerical methods. The talks at the seminar were/are covering the most fundamental issues of the theory and applications of non-linear spectroscopy, of chaos control, of non-linear differential equations, of engineering biology, etc.
In a short period of time the seminar became very popular among many leading scientists, practising specialists, research scholars, pre-doctoral students, etc. The seminar now has its official name ``Modelling and Control of Non-Linear Processes'' and is recognized by the Academy of Science of Lithuania, as a national seminar.
The seminar showed also a great and increasing need of active scientists to co-operate. As a result, the Lithuanian Association of Non-linear Analysts (LANA) was founded. It was established as a not-for-profit organization to include practising professionals in academia and industry, post-doctoral research scholars, and pre-doctoral students, etc. and to provide such kind of activities:
Wee-known mathematician, professor Vytautas Statulevicius was elected as a president of Association (probability theory and stochastic processes, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics), professor Feliksas Ivanauskas as a first and acting vice-president (non-linear differential equations, Vilnius University), two other vice-presidents are: professor Algirdas Stabinis (non-linear spectroscopy, Vilnius University) and professor Bronislovas Kaulakys (theoretical physics, Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astronomy). The secretary of Association is associate professor Algimantas Juozapavicius (algorithms, Vilnius University).
The scientists of Lithuania are active (and have world-known results and publications) in such areas of research as nonlinear differential equations, field theory, stochastic processes, non-linear dynamics, chaos, fluctuation and kinetics, non-linear optics and laser spectroscopy, molecules and molecular aggregates, charge and excitation dynamics in condensed substances, some others. Very good evaluations of these results were given in international journals or by EU, International Science Foundation, American Society of Physics, A. Humboldt Foundation etc. The scientists are participating in numerous research programs, such as EUREKA, PHARE and other EU programs.
The Association has a great interest to help to expand cooperation for its members. For those, who have interests to participate the seminar, to join the Association or have other activities or ideas for cooperation, the contact addresses are:
