All you always wanted to know about Computer Algebra but were too afraid to ask

CAIN Europe is an information server on the World-Wide-Web giving the means
to easily access various information related to Symbolic and Algebraic Computation.
This server is set up by eight research teams in the framework of the European SAC Network and is maintained by
CAN - Riaca (Computer Algebra Nederland).
Most SAC partners also have already set up their
National CAIN server, whose aim is to provide
local information related to Symbolic and Algebraic Computation, together with hyperlinks
pointing towards the corresponding topics in CAIN Europe.
CAIN Europe's Home page is at the URL: http://www.can.nl
What information can you find in CAIN ?
- The News: Electronic Newsletters and CAIN's Bulletin Board:
a "black board" where you can exchange questions, ideas and remarks related to Symbolic and
Algebraic Computation.
- Announcements: Conferences, Software Releases, Job Opportunities and
New Books
- Newcomers in Computer Algebra: Tutorials and Demos
- Teams and People: Personal Pages and "Home Pages" of research teams
- Education: Educational Material, Web Sites for Mathematics Education,
Curricula, Interactive Material for Mathematics Learning, Projects, Softwares, Journals and Electronic Newsletters
- Systems and Packages: Information about more that 110 general-purpose,
special-purpose and experimental softwares
- Applications: in Artificial Intelligence, Astronomy, Chemistry,
Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Economics & Finance, Engineering, Life Sciences, Mathematics
and Physics.
- Literature: The BibTex Bibliographic Database to easily access a big
bibliographic database in the BibTex format, The Preprints Virtual Database
that disseminates Preprints, Proceedings, Journals and various Bibliographies.
- The Computer Algebra Virtual Library: to help you finding information about a
few important topics in Computer Algebra. For each topic, you will find hyperlinks pointing towards
Tutorials, Algorithms, software implementations, applications and bibliographies.
We are building up CAIN with your help
A big quantity of information related to Symbolic and Algebraic Computation
is already available in CAIN Europe, but WE NEED YOUR HELP to make
much more useful information available.
We are presently collecting 6 different types of information: Personal Pages,
"Home Pages" of Research Teams, BibTex files, Preprints, Information
related to Applications, information related to Education.
You can make your information available in CAIN Europe in two different ways:
- By providing the URL (i.e. the Web address) of an existing page.
This is the easiest method. It gives the means to make the information available in CAIN Europe
(via a hyperlink) while you still continue to maintain the page locally.
- Using CAIN's Repositories: a Repository (there is
one for each type of information, except Preprints) is a place where you can create a new Web page
via a fill in form and maintain it in CAIN Europe,
i.e. update and delete it later on if necessary. In particular, the BibTex Repository allows
to create individual entries by document type according to the BibTex specifications.
A Repository should
be used when a page cannot be maintained locally.
You can provide you contribution to CAIN Europe now !
Please choose the type of information you want to make available in CAIN Europe
and the way to provide it.
