All the partners have contributed to the setting up of
CAIN Europe: The Computer Algebra Information
Network (see the URL http://www.can.nl).
CAIN Europe is a server on the
World-Wide-Web giving the means to easily access
various information related to Symbolic and Algebraic
Computation.
CAIN Europe is a distributed system. It means that most
information is maintained at the level of the research teams and the individual users
all around the world. CAIN Europe gives the means to easily find
the information one
looks for. These are the four most important features of the server's
design:
- The information is sorted out by category.
- The system is user-driven.
- The SAC partners provide different kinds of service to CAIN
Europe.
- Search engines give the means to easily find information.
Here are a few figures that should give an
idea of the amount of information available
via CAIN Europe:
- The News: 16 newsletters.
- Announcements: 44 job opportunities between
December 1996 and September 1997, 33 conferences and workshops,
of which 21 in Europe, between December 1996 and October 1997, 14 software releases and 34 new books.
- Newcomers in Computer Algebra: 18 tutorials and 14 demos.
- Teams and People: the ``Home page" of 66 research teams
and the ``Personal page" of 81 individuals dealing with
Symbolic and Algebraic Computation.
- Systems and Packages: information about more than 110
general purpose, special purpose and experimental software.
- ``Computer Algebra in Action'': 72 applications
of Computer Algebra.
- Literature: 64 Preprints, 87 BibTex files, the proceedings
of 27 conferences, Journals in Math and Computer Science
from 13 publishers, 21 journals related to Symbolic and Algebraic
Computation with searchable contents on the publishers' sites,
a local compilation of 154 books related to Symbolic and
Algebraic Computation.
- The ``Virtual Computer Algebra Library'' contains 8 tutorials
and many other useful information about the 5 topics covered so far.
- European Projects in Symbolic and Algebraic Computation:
information about 8 projects.
